O'ahu Hawaii
Waikiki
We did a mother daughter trip to O'ahu and had a vacation to remember! Our hotel was in Waikiki, but we ventured up the coast which allowed us to see and experience so much!
Tips:
-
Either rent a car or take Uber to see the sights around the island. I don't recommend just staying at Waikiki because it gets very busy, and there is so much to see around the island!
-
Go to Waikiki beach early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
-
On your road trip up the coast be sure to pull over and enjoy the many viewpoints!
-
Take your time and take in the sights, sounds and smells around you! Breathe in that fresh ocean air!
Tours
Since we were only visiting for a week, we opted to go on a photography tour with Oahu Photo Tours to see some sights and learn about the area. We did a short 5 hour photo tour, it was small and casual with only a couple other adults. Our guide was knowledgeable, nice and funny which made it really fun! We saw so many beautiful sights and had a delicious lunch too!
We also did a one hour glass bottom boat tour which was affordable and fun! We saw sea turtles, beautiful fish and brave surfers. It was a great way to get out on the water, get awesome pictures and see wildlife.
What to do?
Beaches, shopping, food, and so much history!
There's a lot to see, smell and taste!
I recommend:
-
Road tripping up the coast to check out the many beautiful beaches of O'hau.
-
Eat Shave Ice and Poke! The best Poke I had was right at the Foodland grocery store.
-
Enjoy a Hula show, often times you can find a free one.
-
Relax at the beach or pool side.
-
Have a relaxing Zen day at the Byodo-In Temple. Ring the bell for good luck and a long life. We also enjoyed a fresh fruit smoothie there and found some treasures at the cute gift shop.
-
Go shopping at Waikiki and check out one of the many ABC stores.
